Some fantasy heroines have a sword. Delaney Stone has an emotional-support pig.

She’s also a small-town pharmacist, a certified pilot and a woman with inherited supernatural pica. Rachel Rener’s world is not short on personality.

Fire Opals and Family follows Amethysts and Alchemy—and its deluxe-edition Kickstarter brings the series’ mineral magic right onto the book itself.

Think gemstones. Think glitter. Think a book that takes its title’s jewellery-box energy seriously.

Romance With a Different Kind of Spark

The campaign describes cozy rivals-to-lovers romantasy with a neurodivergent heroine.

No throne required. The appeal here is a distinctive lead, an unusual magical world, and the friction of two people who aren’t starting out on the same side.

And, yes, the pig.

For readers returning after Amethysts and Alchemy, this is the next piece of a world they already know—not just a pretty edition of an unfamiliar book.

A Book That Looks Like It Belongs to Its Story

The campaign calls the deluxe edition “studded with gemstones and glitter.” Its artwork shows a burgundy book with gemstone-themed edges: mineral magic translated into something you can put on a shelf.

That connection is what makes the design interesting. The decoration isn’t borrowing a random fantasy motif. It’s taking its cue from the fiction.

The featured image is a campaign rendering, so the finished book’s details are still something to look forward to—not something we’ve inspected in person.

$97,660—and Still Running

At the recorded October 30 snapshot, 590 backers had pledged $97,660 against a $15,000 goal. That’s more than six times the target.

Rener has been here before. She wrote that the earlier Amethysts and Alchemy deluxe Kickstarter funded in less than two minutes. This sequel gives those readers another edition to come back for.

Kicktraq lists November 15 as the funding deadline. That’s the close of the campaign, not the book’s release date; the live pledge total may already have moved.

A Little Less Royal Court. A Little More Gemstone Magic.

There’s room on the romantasy shelf for more than crowns and dragons.

Fire Opals and Family brings a different flavour: a small-town heroine, mineral magic, rivals-to-lovers tension and a deluxe design that leans into all that sparkle.

The interesting part isn’t whether it will become expensive later. It’s whether you want this particular world on your shelf.

For readers who do, Rener is making it a very colourful invitation.
