✦ How RELIC works ✦
A catalog, a vault and a marketplace — built on honest records.
Here's what works today, and what's still on the way.
01The catalog
Every collectible edition gets its own record — separate from the ordinary book — with variants, print run and distinguishing features. Collectors submit editions; each is reviewed before approval.
02Your Vault
Record each copy you own: price paid, date, condition, photos and notes. Keep it private or make it public. Estimated values appear only when enough real sales exist.
03The marketplace
Sellers list their own physical copies with photos and a condition from RELIC's scale. Asking prices are always shown apart from completed sales.
04Protected checkoutPlanned
Buyer pays RELIC, the seller ships tracked, and the payout releases after delivery and an inspection window.
The RELIC condition scale
Seller-described. It is not a RELIC grade or an authentication.
Sealed
Unopened in original shrink or packaging. No handling marks visible.
As New
Opened, unread or read once with care. No marks, creases or fading.
Fine
Minimal shelf wear — a faint rub or tiny edge mark, described in notes.
Very Good
Visible but minor wear such as a corner bump or edge fade, photographed.
Good
Noticeable wear or a flaw that is fully disclosed and photographed.
Trust & protection
Seller identityPlanned
Every listing belongs to a signed-in account. Identity checks and seller ratings are planned.
Listing photosLive
Sellers photograph the actual copy: cover, spine, edges, signature/number page and any defects.
Condition descriptionsLive
Sellers choose a level from RELIC's scale and describe visible defects in their own words.
Buyer protectionPlanned
Payment held until delivery, with a window to inspect the copy.
Disputes & returnsPlanned
A way to open a dispute if a copy doesn't match its listing.
VerificationPlanned
RELIC does not authenticate copies today. A photo review and optional physical inspection are planned.
